Saigon has a tropical climate, with an average temperate around 28°C (82°F) and humidity of 75%. The year is divided into two distinct seasons. The rainy season, with an average annual rainfall of about 1,800 millimetres (71 in) begins around May and ends in late November. The dry season runs from December to April. The hottest month is April (just before the start of the rainy season) when midday temperatures can reach 39°C (102°F). The coolest period is in December with day time temperatures in the mid 20's on most days and dropping to as low as 16-18°C (61-65°F) in the early mornings.

Saigon weather tends to dictate the travel agenda for visitors. The high season is in the dry months November to April, however accommodation is harder to get in this period and crowds are bigger. A better time to travel therefore is often outside the peaks periods. Rain showers tend to be very heavy but are short in duration leaving most of the day for getting around.
